Making a professional layout
This tutorial is going to show you how to make a layout that is more or less professional. I have the photo I took that you will need
to create this layout here:
Lovely Rose
If you use this tutorial you are required to credit because everything being used will be mine or already already included with photoshop.
* The tutorial will get a little confusing at times so please look at the example pictures before and after you follow the
indivual steps.
Step #1
First take that lovely rose picture and open it in your graphic program.
I want you to resize the picture to 1000x750
Now crop your photo until it is 1000x211 and looks like this:
Step #2
Now create a new window that is 1000x800
Paste the cropped photo on to the window and move it to the side so it does not fill the whole screen.
Make a new layer and dye it in #b2be3b
Your layout should look like this:
Step #3
Create a strip of white that is a little bit bigger than the cropped photo and put it under the cropped photo.
Now that the white is there change the Opactiy of the photo to 73%
The layout should look like this:
Step #4
Now let's get to the fun part! Create two new layers and place them right below the strip of white
With the first layer use the marquee tool to select a strip that islonger than the strip of white, but much, much shorter.
Use the colors #f575a4 and #b1566c to make a garninet fading lighter to darker horizotinal in the selected portion.
With the second layer again use the marquee tool to select a strip only this time make it a little longer and a little wider
than the first layer. Use the colors #ecebbc and #ce6c7b to make a garninet fading lighter to darker horizotinal in the selected portion.
Your layout should look like this:
Step #5
This is a really short and easy step so please do it quickly. Go back to the flower photo and go to Layer- Layer style- Dropshadow
Leave everything how it is but change the Blend mode to Normal, Change the Opactiy to 100%, Change the Distance to 0%,
Change the spread to 30%, and change the size to 8%.
Now your layout should look like this:
Step #6
All most done! Pick a font you want to work with, please pick an elegant font otherwise the whole layout will look wrong.
I'm going to use "Bickham Script Pro" a default font on my computer.
Type your site name in whatever color you want place it right above the white strip and the gradinet bars, on the right.
Now go to Layer- Layer style- Garniet overlay, use the colors #b2be3b and #FFFFFF to do the garniet just like you did with the
strips only check the reverse box.
Then duplicate the text layer and reflect it. Place the layer so only the ends touch (you will have to earse the big swirly
ends on both text layers to get this right.) On the reflected layer change the Opacity to 41%
Yah! Only one more atep to go, here is what your layout should look like now:
Step #7
The last step! Select th color #e8eac3 and right click on the rectangle tool and go down to the rounded rectangle tool.
Change the radius to 100px. And make a rounded rectangle that goes all the way down to the end of the screen, starts about
1/3 of the way through the rose picture, and ends right before the text ends.
Go to Layer- Layer style- Dropshadow and play around with the setting until you get the kind of dropshadow you want on your blog
Your final product should look something like this:
